about

It was 2004, I had just finished sixth form and the bands I had relied on to give me musical and artistic fulfilment up until this point were alas fading into an era of else-ambition and detached further education. I knew I had to do something to keep my creativity lubricated, so I got myself all the necessary tools to record alone in my bedroom and began a year of failed employment attempts and eBay selling. The Final Scene started as a three-track demo, which I had no idea what to do with, so in an act of ultimate procrastination I wrote and recorded more and more songs. The demo turned into an EP, which in turn flourished into a stockpile of over 20 songs, which I then proceeded to cut down to 14 tracks (an album). I watched a lot of films; listened to a lot of ambient music and developed a fascination with night, lights and tranquillity. I wanted to paint a musical soundscape for the end of the day, for the twilight of your seasons, for the soundtrack to your autumn, for your drive through the crisp, clear dusk, the road coated with leaves and the bright lights of passing vehicles helping you unwind on your journey to serenity. It was inspired by iTunes visualisations, Brian Eno’s ambient music for airports and Elliott Smith’s song, Twilight. I wrote it to give myself something to do, I wrote it for me, and I wrote it for you.
